A new image found on Chinese website Weibo shows what is supposedly an industrial prototype of Apple’s rumored “iPad Pro” device. The pictured model is made of machined aluminum and, while it appears to be a back plate, is likely just a dummy rather than an actual part.

The image was first spotted by Nowhereelse.fr, and is likely to be used by manufacturers to aid in the creation of cases and other accessories for the rumored 12.9-inch device. The image doesn’t show any previously unknown details about the device, but does a great of comparing the rumored size to a human hand.

The device has been rumored for a while now; some concept art appeared in April, but the rumor originally gained steam in January and the project was said to have been put “on hold” by Apple sometime in March. Most recently, the rumor was fueled once again with news from Mark Gurman that said Apple is working on a way to have two apps on-screen at once in future iPad software.

To give some of the most credence to this rumored device, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released his 2014 predictions for Apple earlier this year and, while he says the purported 12.9-inch iPad won’t be landing this year, it’s something that Apple is considering. Kuo said in that report that Apple will be coming up with some kind of innovative and new user interface for the device.

While all of these rumors are exciting, it’s impossible to determine whether or not the above image is linked to them–or real iPad specifications–in any way at all. Interestingly, the above image shows a camera cutout on the back of the device as seen in Apple’s other iOS devices, but that may or may not be a feature a part of the rumored device.

If the device is indeed released, rumors suggest that it will be very similar in appearance to the current iPad Air and iPad mini, offering a curved edge and a very high resolution display. Be sure to follow us here at iPhoneHacks as we’ll be sure to let you know more as soon as we do.
